Spring Tour

The following birdwatching tours are available to book now. They include three meals, reserve entrance fees, hotel accommodation in a double room, transport in 4 WD, and all the services of the bird guide.

Itinerary:

12-20 April 2024 (8 nights), price $1750.00 (includes a boat trip) (Full)

2–10 April 2025 (8 nights), price $1750.00 (includes a boat trip) (spaces available)

Day 1: Meet and greet at the airport and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: We will start at Fintas Park, where we are expected to see the Rüppell’s Weaver, Semi-collared Flycatcher, White-eared Bulbul, Lesser Whitethroat, Barred Warbler, Hume’s Whitethroat. Then we drive to Abu Hasaniya for the Lesser and Greater Crested Terns, Lesser and Greater Sand Plovers, Slender-billed Gull, Common Black-headed Gull, Great Black-headed Gull, and Caspian Gull. Our next stop would be the famous Green Island trying to find the Hypocolius, Red-vented Bulbul, and the Rüppell’s Weaver. We will then drive along the coast to Souq Sharq to search for more gulls, terns, and waders. We will continue north to Shuwaikh Free Trade Zone, the Hospitals area, and Sulaibikhat Bay up to Jahra East Outfall. Birds expected to be seen include; House Crow, Greater Flamingo, Squacco Heron, Grey Heron, Western Great Egret, Indian Reef Heron, Great Cormorant, Western Osprey, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Crab-plover (scarce in April), Black-winged Stilt, Pied Avocet, Grey Plover, Common Ringed Plover, Kentish Plover, Lesser Sand Plover, Greater Sand Plover, Common Snipe, Bar-tailed Godwit, Eurasian Whimbrel, Eurasian Curlew, Common Redshank, Marsh Sandpiper, Common Greenshank, Wood Sandpiper, Terek Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Ruddy Turnstone, Sanderling, Little Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Dunlin, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Ruff, Red-necked Phalarope, Grey Phalarope (rare), Collared Pratincole, Slender-billed Gull, Common Black-headed Gull, Great Black-headed Gull, Caspian Gull, Heuglin’s Gull, Gull-billed Tern, Caspian Tern, Sandwich Tern, Little Tern, Common Tern, Whiskered Tern, Eurasian Collared Dove and Laughing Dove.

Day 3: We will start at the famous wetland of Kuwait, the Jahra Pools Reserve. Birds expected there include Purple Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Little Bittern, Ferruginous Duck, Little Grebe, Little Crake, Water RailGrey-headed Swamphen, Common Moorhen, Eurasian Coot, Red-wattled Lapwing (scarce), White-tailed Lapwing, Eurasian Penduline Tit (scarce),Little Ringed Plover, Common Ringed Plover, Black-tailed Godwit, Black-tailed Godwit, Pallid Swift, Red-rumped Swallow, Marsh Harrier, Pallid Harrier, Steppe Eagle, Eastern Imperial EagleGreater Spotted Eagle, European Roller, White-throated KingfisherBlue-cheeked Bee-eater, European Bee-eater, Common Cuckoo, Eurasian Hoopoe, Indian Reed Warbler, Moustached Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Great Reed Warbler, Eurasian Reed Warbler, Marsh Warbler, Namaqua Dove, Eastern Olivaceous WarblerUpcher’s Warbler, Spotted Flycatcher, Tawny Pipit, White-throated Robin, Eastern Nightingale, Caspian Stonechat,  Byzantine Stonechat, Long-legged Buzzard, Steppe Buzzard, Delicate Prinia, Turkestan ShrikeDaurian Shrike, Woodchat Shrike, Mauryan (Steppe) Grey Shrike. We will then visit Jahra Farms for the White-throated Kingfisher, Common, and Bank Mayna, Caucasian Water Pipit, Red-rumped Swallow, Meadow Pipit, Red-throated Pipit, Tree Pipit, Richard’s Pipit, Crested Lark, Citrine Wagtail, Yellow-headed Wagtail (lutea), Black-headed Wagtail, Grey-headed Wagtail, White-headed Wagtail (rare). Our next destination would be Mutla’a Ranch, expected birds there include White-throated Robin, Caspian Stonechat, Pied Wheatear, Black-eared Wheatear, Caucasian Water Pipit, Meadow Pipit, Red-throated Pipit, Tree Pipit, Richard’s Pipit, Crested Lark, Citrine Wagtail, Yellow-headed Wagtail (lutea), Black-headed Wagtail, Grey-headed Wagtail, White-headed Wagtail (rare), Pale RockfinchYellow-throated Sparrow, Whinchat, Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, Crested Lark, Eurasian Sparrowhawk.

Day 4: On this day, we will be visiting Abdali Farms for the Afghan Babbler, where we might also see the Red-wattled Lapwing, Delicate Prinia, White-throated Robin, Upcher’s WarblerEastern Olivaceous Warbler, Long-legged Buzzard, Steppe Buzzard, Pallid Harrier, Hoopoe Lark, Lesser Short-toed Lark, Greater Short-toed Lark, Namaqua Dove. After birding in Abdali we will leave towards Liah Reserve. Liah Reserve is an open desert, but there is also a long row of mesquite trees that attract migrants. An artificial pool is also there surrounded by bushes. In the open desert, we are expected to find Hoopoe Lark, Lesser and Greater Short-toed Lark, Bar-tailed Lark, and Crested Lark. Whereas birds around the mesquite trees include migrant shrikes, Upcher’s and Eastern Olivaceous Warbler, Barred Warbler, White-throated Robin, Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, Eastern Nightingale, Eurasian Hoopoe, Asian Desert Warbler, Ménétries’s Warbler and Pale Rockfinch. If we have time we will visit Kabd Reserve to see Black-crowned Sparrow-Lark, we will also have a chance to see some migrants that include Plae Rockfinch, WheatearBlack-eared and Pied wheatears, Northern Wheatear, Corn Bunting, Eurasian Hoopoe, Crested Lark, Masked Shrike, Mauryan (Steppe) Grey Shrike, Woodchat Shrike, Upcher’s Warbler, Eastern Olivaceous Warbler, Common Cuckoo, Eastern Nightingale, Hume’s Whitethroat, Common Whitethroat, and Common and Lesser Kestrel.

Day 5: We will head directly to Al-Abraq, an oasis in the middle of the desert, a magnet for birds. Birds expected include Basra Reed Warbler, Eurasian Hobby, Steppe Buzzard, Upcher’s Warbler, Marsh Warbler, Semi-collared Flycatcher, Steppe Eagle, Long-legged Buzzard, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Greater Spotted Eagle, Lesser and Greater Short-toed Lark, Pallid Harrier, Pallid Swift, Lesser Whitethroat, Pale Rockfinch, Red-throated Pipit, White-throated Robin, Great Reed Warbler, Sykes’s Warbler, Turkestan Shrike, Red-backed Shrike. We then drive through the desert in search of Temminck’s Lark, Hoopoe Lark, Desert Lark, Greater and Lesser Short-toed Lark, and Bar-tailed Lark. On our way back, we will stop at the United Poultry Co. to search for migrants in the pivot fields and the surrounding trees. Then we go to Al-Shallal’s Farm to search for migrants and we will do some birding along the fence of SAANR if time allows.

Day 6: Early in the morning we will visit either Kuwait Zoo or Al-Shaheed Park for the Indian Silverbill, and do general birding. Expected birds include Hypocolius, Common Mayna, and Barred Warbler, Semi-collared Flycatcher. We then visit Pivot Fields (from outside) where we are expected to see Eastern Imperial Eagle, Greater Spotted Eagle, Steppe Eagle, Eurasian Hobby, Short-toed Snake Eagle, Black-winged Pratincole, Common Pratincole, Namaqua Dove, Desert Wheatear, Black-eared and Pied wheatears, Northern Wheatear, Corn Bunting, Eurasian Hoopoe, Crested Lark, Masked Shrike, Mauryan (Steppe) Grey Shrike, and Woodchat Shrike. We then go to Mutla’a Ridge and explore the area there, after that we will visit Mutla’a Ranch and end the day there.

Day 7: We will do general birding at Jahra Pools Reserve, Jahra Farms, and Jahra East Outfall at high tide.

Day 8: We will be having a boat trip to see the Bridled Tern, White-cheeked Tern, Socotra Cormorant, but before that, we will visit Fahaheel Park for migrants which include Eastern Nightingale, Semi-collared Flycatcher, and then drive south to Nuwaiseeb Lycium bushes in search of Kurdistan Wheatear (scarce), expected birds would include wheatears and White-throated Robin, Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, Blue Rock Thrush, Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush, Ménétries’s Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Humes’s Whitethroat, Asian Desert Warbler, White-eared Bulbul, Hypocolius and shrikes. If we have time we will stop at the abandoned Zour village in search of migrants and end the day there

Day 9: Say goodbye and transfer to the airport.

Note: Since the boat trip depends on the weather, it will commence on any day of the trip.

Single room supplement: $300.00

Deposit: $300.00

Group Size: Minimum number for the tour to go ahead is Five, and the maximum is Ten. I would accept three with a price increase of €200 for each person and four with an increase of €150 for each.

Spring Tour will include a boat trip to see the Socotra Cormorant, White-cheeked Tern, Bridled Tern, and whatever we encounter.

The photographic opportunity is superb as of the sunny weather and open areas. 

After booking, you must confirm by paying a non-refundable deposit of €300.00. Instruction on how to pay the deposit will be sent by email.

Included in the price:
  • Accommodation in twin-bedded rooms that includes breakfast and dinner.
  • Light lunch, water, tea, coffee, and refreshment during the daytime.
  • Entrance fees to reserves and professional bird guidance.
  • Ground transport in 4WD, and also transport from and to the airport.
Not Included in the price:
  • Air travel tickets, travel insurance, passport costs, entry visas fees, and excess baggage charges.
  • Telephone calls, laundry, room service, snacks, and anything of a purely personal nature.
Physical Requirement:

The tours involve short walking distances as in most reserves we drive through dirt roads and stop for short walks on mostly flat ground.

Tour Cancellation:

I reserve the right to cancel any tour for which there are insufficient reservations (2 or 1), 60 days before the tour begins.

Cancellation and refund:

You may cancel your tour and get your deposit refunded back to you as long as it is 90 days before your tour begins.

Entry Visa to Kuwait:

The passport holders of the following countries (52) can obtain Tourist Visa online at: https://evisa.moi.gov.kw/evisa/home_e.do . You are granted to stay for three months from the date of arrival. A 3 KWD (9 Euro) will be required for some countries.
